Ennis Relay considered a success

As the teams that took part in the Ennis Relay for Life are hanging up their walking shoes for this year and finally getting some sleep, event organizers are busy counting the money and getting a final total on the amount raised from the event.
The relay, which kicked off Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Texas Motorplex, was a success according to organizers and with the event being held at a new location, they said things went smoothly.
Relay logistics co-chairman Ken Hackney said he was very happy with how things went during the 12-hour event.
"In my opinion, I think it went off very well," he said. "Glen Menard from the Motorplex was very supportive and gave us great recommendations for changes to the event next year, which makes me think this could work into a long-term commitment. The entire staff of the Motorplex was very receptive and instrumental in making the event a success and I think the layout worked very well. The aspect of the track I liked best was that the teams could look out and see each other and also seeing the luminarias in the middle of the track. All of the committee members, volunteers and participants helped make the evening a wonderful experience. My hat goes off to the chair and co-chair for their tireless effort, planning and dedication to making the event what it has become today."
