Huge first inning lifts Leggett & Platt

28 batters step to plate in marathon opening frame
Sometimes it seems as if the second inning of a ballgame will never arrive.
In Wednesday’s early freshman league contest between Leggett & Platt (LP) and Price Distributing (PD), 18 runs were scored and 28 batters came to the plate.
LP spent most of the frame on offense with a 13-run inning that catapulted it to a 19-5 victory. LP out-hit PD 9-3 and committed none of the game’s four errors.
“Everybody is finding a way to help us win and we’ve got a good group of kids,” said LP coach Ray Lawrence.
Alston Lawrence (1/3 IP, 5 ER, 3 H, 4 W, 1 SO) got the start on the hill for LP, while Chuy Fraga (2 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 3 W, 5 SO) was outstanding in a relief role.
Offensively, Colby Martinez led LP with three singles and an RBI. The victors received extra-base hits from Tyler Woods (2-run IP HR), Todd Forbes (2-RBI triple) and Kyle Keever (RBI triple). Other hits came courtesy of Fraga (RBI single), Tino Aguilar (RBI single) and Lawrence (single).
The pitching duties for PD were handled by Mason Burns (2 IP, 10 ER, 8 H, 5 W, 3 HBP, 4 SO) and Dawson Maliska (1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 SO).
