Unbeaten Keever crew maintains momentum

Midget division hosts good matchup between Keever and GAF-ELK
For any team at Bluebonnet Park to be undefeated in late May is quite an accomplishment.
In the midget division, that’s the current case for Keever softball (6-0) as it bested GAF-ELK (4-3) on Thursday by a 6-4 margin. GAF-ELK gave Keever arguably its toughest test of the season as the league leaders finished with more hits (7-4) and fewer errors (1-3).
“The girls are playing well right now and most of them are experienced with our team,” said KV coach Donnie Keilers.
“We’re excited to have a group that works well together. [GE] is a young team, but they’ve played us tough both times we’ve seen them.”
From the GE perspective, coach Julie Skroh recognized the challenge her ballclub faced in the contest.
“I think we did extremely well,” she said.
“We had a few mistakes in the field, but came up with some nice hits and our pitching was solid. We’re a much younger team, so playing [KV] close wasn’t bad at all. We’re getting closer.”
The KV offense was led by triples from the bats of Maile Deutsch (RBI), Natalie Keever (RBI) and Alexis Aguilar. The victors received further plate production from Haven Keilers (RBI single), Coree Weeks (single), Casey Thompson (single), Morgan Goforth (single) and Marisa Godwin (RBI).
