Show your pride in the U.S. flag

The American Flag is a symbol of freedom, democracy, security and pride. Displaying it with that pride is a symbol that communicates good will toward our fellow citizens and a feeling of charity and congeniality.
It also acts as a symbol that tells onlookers the story that has shaped America. That story is one of dedication to ideals and values that make up the psyche of the American, a person who has strong convictions to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
For more than 12 years, the Rotary Club of Ennis has helped members of the community show their commitment and support to those ideals that make the United States the great nation that it is through its flag program.
For a nominal fee, Rotarians will come out to homes and places of business on national holidays to fly flags like Memorial Day, Flag day and Independence Day. Rotary club projects benefit from the community-supported effort, and the city benefits from showing its patriotic pride.
We’d love to see every street in Ennis flying a flag Saturday — the Fourth of July, the day on which we celebrate our independence as a free and democratic nation, should be one time that flags are everywhere.
The program also serves as a public service opportunity for other outfits like the Boy Scouts and Beta Sigma Pi,
Perhaps most importantly, flying the nation’s colors during this point in our history shows support for the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as for veterans who have served in war and peace time to ensure the safety of our nation. With the events of the last decade firmly at the front of our minds, showing our patriotism should be an easy task.
