Nationals rev up

Energy is building fast at the Texas Motorplex as the National Hot Rod Association Fall Nationals ramp up this week.
“The excitement level jumps every hour,” said Motorplex President Glenn Menard. “It starts when the trucks start coming through town — when you see those rigs coming down the road, even the natives have that feeling. They have since ’86.”

Teams began arriving Monday and Tuesday, Menard said. NHRA officials have streamed to the event, as well as pit workers, track crews, concessions and merchandise vendors and a host of other people tied to the annual fall event. He estimates at least 2,000 milling about the track working on the event at some level.
