Keep an eye on Ennis High hoops

Ennis might not be known as a basketball town, but the next couple of months could open some eyes in that regard.
As local sports fans know, November and December in Ennis will be all about the action on the hardwood. No complaints here, as the idea of covering athletic competition in the biting wind and potential freezing precipitation has never been a concept I’ve gotten fired up about.

Admittedly, it took me a couple of Lion soccer seasons freezing on the bench before the light bulb came on regarding me heading up to the climate controlled pressbox in Lion Memorial Stadium, but I digress.

Basketball is the high school sport to follow in the winter and for good reason.

When I arrived in Ennis in 2004, to say it was tough sledding for both the Lion and Lady Lion basketball programs would be an understatement. There simply wasn’t much momentum for either program and our Ennis athletes were often looking to other sports to be a part of.
