Palmer Bulldog basketball motivated to make strides

Now that football season is over, the Palmer Bulldog boys are getting to work on the basketball court. Last year, the Bulldogs finished 10-16 and, according to head coach Jay Underwood. The program could be on the rise.
“Even though we lost four good seniors last year, we should have a better season this year,” he said. “We hired a coach to help us offensively and we are much better on the that side of the ball this season than we were last year.”

Underwood serves not only as the boys’ basketball coach; he is also the Palmer ISD Athletic Director. He has been coaching for 14 years with the last four at Palmer.

Jay played sports at Venus High School and his wife, Stephanie, was a cheerleader at Maypearl High School. Despite the rivalry between the schools, they met and became high school sweethearts. Now married 15 years, they have two boys, Nolen and Hayden.
