Ennis pummels Waco in Battle of Lions rematch
It’s amazing what a talented roster addition and five weeks of hard work can do for a high school basketball team.
Just before Christmas, Lion basketball (11-13, 5-3) headed to Waco to open district play only to see the red Lions roll to an 83-63 victory. With versatile junior Jamar’s Goodwin now in the picture and Ennis having played well for several weeks, Tuesday brought a 41-point swing for the maroon Lions in an 85-64 triumph. Ennis was stellar down the stretch in a 28-11 fourth quarter.
“As far as effort and emotion, that’s the best game we played this year,” said coach Jerry Mason. “You want to put on a show for the people, but you also want to play quality playoff-type basketball. This was a big game for us and Waco High is a good team. We work so hard everyday on our conditioning and it paid off in a game like this (with the fourth-quarter domination).”
