Young distance runner shines from the start

Carrie Hopkins has loved running for most of her life, but only recently did she discover it was a fantastic way to strengthen her relationship with her daughter.
Morgan Hopkins, a fifth-grader at Ennis Intermediate, decided back in January that she wanted to go running with her mom.

"I was a former sprinter in high school at Midland Lee and then on the women’s track team at Texas Tech," said Carrie, a second grade teacher at Austin Elementary. "I was looking for something to keep me fit, so I joined the Run On! class out of Dallas. It focuses on developing you as a distance runner, which was foreign to me."
