Vrla competes for state award

Miller Intermediate School’s Brent Vrla wasn’t always a teacher.
The former computer science professional is thinking about teaching a little differently since his selection as a finalist for the Association of Texas Professional Educators’ Educator of the Year Award.

Vrla, a sixth-grade math teacher, studied computer science during his undergraduate endeavors. After two years in the field, Vrla said he wanted a change, and earned his alternative teaching certification from Texas A&M Commerce.
