EPD stops burglary at Ennis business

Ennis Police caught an alleged burglar in the act Friday at Leggett and Platt.
Department spokesman Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson said officials with the business called in a burglary in progress and officers rushed to the scene.

When they arrived, responding officers Hopson, Officer Brian Clark, Chief John Erisman and Det. Paul Asby entered the building and found their suspect — Ennis resident Larry Hickey, 46 — allegedly in the process of stealing copper wire.

“He was pulling wire loose at the breakers and then going to the outlets and pulling it through,” Hopson said. “We walked right up behind him while he was doing it.”

Hickey had just been released from state jail Thursday and was charged Friday with burglary of a building, another state jail felony.
