Latest ‘Pride’ edition to be unveiled

On Wednesday, the Ennis Daily News will officially unveil its latest edition of Pride.
For those of you not familiar with our annual promotion this time of year, Pride is a business cooperative in our community, which allows regional businesses, nonprofits and local citizens to show their pride in the area.

From T-shirts with the simple Pride logo on it to the business features our editorial staff will compile over the next two months, our Pride program is designed to express to you, our valued reader, the importance of taking Pride in your community — something we undoubtedly all understand, but subtle reminders help keep it in the forefront of our minds. Pride is a lot more than just a word. In Ennis, it’s a calling each of us are expected to express in our day-to-day activities.

This includes taking pride in each and every business, non-profit group, hall, festival and person within our city limits and beyond.
It’s about looking at the positive side of things and ways in which we can work together to offset the negative.

For example, if a business does not provide the best experience, contact the manager or owner. Don’t just tell locals to stay away.

Have pride in your fellow Ennisites and trust that when a problem can be handled, they’ll do the right thing. More importantly, you could be the solution to that problem, fostering your own pride.

Also, Pride is about making our community a better place. Highlighting the accomplishments of our students’ athletic and academic prowess is one way to do that. Promoting a local hotel or eatery to a visitor is another.

We are in this community together and our pride in one another will make this a better place.

One reason for the newspaper’s development of this concept is because among the many hats we wear, we are marketers of our city.

By showing the good and the bad, we are hopefully helping to make this community a better place. Luckily for us, the good outweighs the negative, which remains valuable to us as a reminder that we’re human.

Take pride in your community and be an active participant in this concept throughout the year.

As we move forward into the second half of 2010, help us by contributing to your neighbors the keys to success through your talents and expertise.
