There’s always ways to help

Life is hectic. Over scheduling, over planning and over working cause us to run through life at 90 miles per minute, rarely pausing to observe the people and things around us. It is all too easy to become consumed with our to-do lists and forget to think of others.
Ennis is a community full of considerate people and helpful organizations that make it easy to help out your fellow man. There are countless ways to make a difference in this area if one simply looks around. Helping others and giving of yourself has potential to benefit not only the person or group you choose, but also to enlighten you.

It can be as easy as cleaning out your closet and donating your gently used clothing, skimming your shelves for books you no longer read or preparing a hot meal for someone you know could use it. There are groups available in Ennis to donate not only items you no longer have use for, but your time as well. Doing something that matters is important and especially valuable when you’re making that effort in your own back yard.

Volunteering is a worthwhile experience that always serves to teach us something about ourselves and creates positive bonds within the community. Spend some time helping out at a local school or with a group that needs help and try not to enjoy yourself and feel great about what you’re doing. Make a monthly donation to a group you feel is doing great things and deserves some assistance.

It doesn’t have to be a local organization, if there is a national group you feel is making strides to better the world let them know by donating to the cause. Just don’t use excuses like “I’m too far away to make a difference,” because that is almost never the case.

Everyone can find something to do to help out even if they don’t have resources available to make a financial gift.

Ask around at work or at church and talk to other members of the community to find out where the need is. Also, if you notice a need in the community not being met, take initiative and find out how you can make the difference. It’s much easier to start something than you might think. The giving attitude is felt immediately upon talking with most anyone in Ennis. People here are thoughtful and generous to others in a way you don’t always find everywhere. Take pride in that giving spirit and keep pushing forward to make a difference for others. Do something that matters every day.
