Rider’s death shocks EISD, fellow bikers

Ennis’ Bill Smith stopped in his tracks when he heard about the Saturday death of a bike rider at the Ennis High School FFA’s Lion Pride Bike Ride.
Sam S. Hacksisombath, a 45-year-old from Haltom City, collapsed a few miles after the 10-mile support and aid station, complaining of chest pain. Smith was in front of him by a few miles at the time, and didn’t hear the story until later.

It immediately brought back strong memories for Smith, who suffered a heart attack in June during a ride in Waxahachie. He said he credits his daily riding routine with affording him the cardiovascular health that helped him survive his brush with death 20 miles into that ride.
