Signs may point to growth

The news we received last week that a new food store is opening in Ennis is more of the kind of news this community needs to hear during tough time like we’ve faced in the past few years.
We’ve seen some encouraging information coming out in recent months, and we are hoping to see ourselves turn the corner on what has been an economic situation that has put a strain on families of all shapes and sizes, as well as crippled some area business ventures.

Growth in the retail market in Ennis would be a wonderful trend.

Sales tax figures are still well below their highs of years past, but we are only slightly behind last year as of the most recent statistics, and coming up on the holiday season’s big boost in retail activity will hopefully push us back into growth territory. That would certainly be a welcome change for the better.

We should be proud to host the Texas Hill Country Barbecue’s very first retail outlet, as well. The business is looking to open other storefronts around the Metroplex in short order, but the fact we’ve been picked for the first such establishment is a good indication of what kind of impact the people behind this move think the Ennis location can have.

That speaks to a strength of our area. With our proximity to such high population and a location on a major traffic artery with Interstate 45 slicing through the east side of town, we can’t afford to lose sight of the fact Ennis is a strong environment for doing business simply because recent hardship has made it hard to keep that in focus.
