Walmart workers grab shoplifter
Officer Don Hudson approached Wal-Mart Monday night after receiving a report of a theft in progress to find the suspect pinned down by employees, according to Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson.
The witnesses said the suspect attempted to flee the store when confronted by employees while trying to walk out of the store with a cell phone charger, cell phone accessories and computer software, priced at $255.56. The employees captured and held the man until Hudson arrived to transport him to the police department.
David Hayden Ross, 34, of Italy was charged with theft of more than $200.

Woman charged in brother’s assault
A 30-year-old woman is facing charges after allegedly attacking her brother Saturday night.
Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson said Officer Touncy Hart was dispatched to 1307 Old Bardwell Road in reference to a disturbance. Once on the scene, Hart spoke with the complainant, who said his intoxicated sister had hit and scratched him repeatedly. Hart reported observing small scratches on the man’s face.
The woman was placed into custody after giving no reason for the altercation.
Sabrina Farrah Jones, 30, of Blanket, Texas, was charged with simple assault.

Man goes to jail for
12-pack of beer
During the weekend, Ennis police responded to Quick Pick Grocery, located at 907 N. Kaufman St., in reference to a theft.
According to the police report, the complainant told officers the man didn’t have any money to pay for a 12-pack of beer he attempted to take from the store. The man attempted to flee but was captured and taken into custody. The complainant told police the man said he wanted the beer because he was going to have a party.
Antonio Tobar, 60, of Ennis was charged with theft of less than $50.

Reported ‘panhandler’ found with drug
A Rice man is in jail after Ennis police found drug paraphernalia in the suspect’s pocket Monday afternoon.
Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson said at approximately 4:55 p.m. officers were dispatched to E. Ennis Ave. in response to a report of a panhandler in the area. Hopson and Randy Owen located the suspect and during a search of the suspect, Hopson reported finding a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine in the man’s pocket.
The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to Ennis police department without further incident.
Gregory Keith Thomas, 33, of Rice was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
