August: The deadliest month to be on the road


A recent string of major accidents, some involving semis in our area had us investigating why August is the most dangerous time to be on Texas highways. Statistically, if you thought driving on a snowy Monday afternoon in January in the Midwest was more dangerous we learned different. The most dangerous month, it turns out, is August, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Earlier this week we were on the scene of a major semi accident in Rice that seriously injured a Houston man. A quick look at the photos captured by staff had us asking how he survived. For a yet unknown reason the semi driver careened onto the northbound shoulder before going back across lanes of traffic and hitting a concrete barrier, before coming to rest blocking all lanes of traffic.
