Biden perfect pick for cancer research task force

President Barack Obama announced the creation of another federal task force on Thursday – and it’s a good

Dubbed the White House Cancer Moonshot Task Force, the group is charged with accelerating cancer research.

There are lots of political and social issues that create a tenuous tenor in our nation, but one thing that unites us

is our health. Cancer is a scourge upon all people, as nearly everyone is touched by its presence, either personally,

in family or in friends.

President Obama’s selection to head the task force was perfect. Vice President Joe Biden is a passionate guy.

He’s demonstrated that for years. It’s likely he would be in the middle of the campaign for the Democratic Party

nomination for president right now, if it weren’t for cancer. Biden’s son, Joseph R. “Beau” Biden III, the former

attorney general of Delaware, died last year at the age of 46 of cancer that afflicted his brain. The elder Biden didn’t

run for president because of the strain of a campaign on his family in the wake of his son’s death.

Vice President Biden will better serve this country in pursuit of what all of us want – a cure for cancer. Though an

advisory panel without any real powers, its focus will be to “supercharge” research.
