Coming home

The body of John C. Harper, a former part owner of the Ennis Daily News, was being returned to his home in Ennis on October 28, 1950, according to an AP report in the Lubbock Morning Avalanche. Harper was 84 years old and had been visiting his son, Charles F. Harper, at his home in Fall River, Mass. when he passed away the evening before. The elder Harper had started his career as a linotype operator and by the time of his death was widely known in Ennis as “Uncle John” Harper.
