David Van Zandt – Random Thoughts – Memes and The Big Game

If you are a person that is so wired in to the interweb and social media, you have no doubt come across a phenomenon known as “the meme.” If not, just consider a meme as the modern-day version of a great one-liner comedian such as Henny Youngman, Milton Berle, or Rodney Dangerfield. The meme is usually an observation with a “twist”. Something like, “I haven’t seen a picture of Bigfoot lately. I sure hope he is ok.” Or “Winner of the international Hide-N-Seek competition” with a picture of Bigfoot. See what I mean? I am on social media in a small way, I guess. I’m not as connected as my son’s are since I limit my social media addiction to things like surfing the web for stories to write about or staying in touch with friends. Reddit and Instagram are apparently out of my ability, so far. I do like the memes that come across my Facebook newsfeed, though. The political ones can get annoying, but the genuinely funny ones stick with me. I will occasionally use them on my radio show. Like this one, “Do Vegans get to eat pudding? (Roger Water’s of Pink Floyd saying the following) ‘Ye can’t have any pudding if ye don’t eat yer meat. How can ye have any pudding if you don’t eat yer meat!!’”. Pretty funny stuff.
