Don’t Like Olykoeks

I blame the Dutch for that particular food abomination, which translates to “oily cakes”. They later became known as “doughnuts”, often spelled now as “donuts”. No reasonable person could consider it a healthy food. The primary ingredients are highly refined sugar, flour and fat. In spite of that, it is common for offices and meeting places to provide whole boxes, alongside coffee on a side table, in break rooms, or at entrances to meeting halls. Workers at many types of job sites can commonly be seen eating them. Um …then there is the standing joke about law enforcement and donuts. The evidence that there is any substance to the proliferation of this breakfast sweet is evident in the number of specialty shops in any city or town you wish to visit. For example, a nearby town has several donut shops, and convenience stores, each with a donut counter. Every grocery store is selling donuts and, in spite of that, three more donut places opened up.
