Ennis hugely proud of Miss Texas

Kendall Morris has done something extraordinary in her life, and Ennis should be immensely proud.

To be sure, being the home of the current Miss Texas is a huge honor. We’re bursting with pride, enjoying a heady rush knowing our community was able to nurture a fine young woman of talent, poise and beauty. That kind of honor is not one many communities in this state can claim.

In that sense, Ennis has, yet again, set itself far apart from its peers. That is to be expected, though, at least by those who live here. We know what this town can do.

Not the least of those things is to pay heed and respect to Morris and her accomplishment. It’s a fair statement to say Ennis owes its native daughter a big reception.

Thankfully, there’s an opportunity — well, actually, several — this week. Monday, Morris will be taking a day from her yearlong whirlwind reign as Miss Texas to head home. She’s making several appearances, the details of which can be found in this edition of the EDN. That offers all of us the chance to see Kendall in person, give her a round of applause, a hug, a handshake or a high five.

Morris is proud to hail from Ennis. She plans to represent this community strongly this year and especially in the upcoming Miss America Pageant in winter 2012. Let’s fill her full of pride in our town by welcoming her as warmly as we can this Monday at her stops around Ennis.

She’s got quite the busy year ahead, and we know she’ll be traversing our great state with a full plate. We likely won’t get too many opportunities to see her, since we now have to share her with the other 25 million residents of this state. Don’t miss your chance Monday.
