Ennis tennis believes in family


The secret to success has thousands of authors. Longevity, that slice of immortality, is also sought after, but not with as much success. Living a long time has its share of good, contributing habits, as men today have a life expectancy of 79, with women living to 81 years. The environment, medicine and plagues limited Americans to living 46 to 48 years at the turn of the year 1900. When it comes to being successful for a long time, that is an entirely different subject. Australian rock guitarist Angus Young, 63, credits drinking embalming fluid annually as his key to career longevity. Ennis has enjoyed its share of lifelong, highly productive people. Many of them owe theirs to Czech heritage, while others may credit good luck, timing, hard work and the blessing of God. Keith Howard has coached tennis at Ennis High School for over 20 years. His sport doesn’t attract 7,000 to 10,000 fans under Friday night lights, though his teams have produced more district championships, 16 or 17, than any sport in town.
