From Outside My Window

As I walked through the hall on the lower floor of my office complex, the ceramic tiles that I was walking

on caught my attention. I noticed the way that they had been laid. They were not in a straight line, but

staggered. I also noticed that the tiles were not identical. Each tile had its own color pattern, yet no

color stood out to draw attention to itself. When I stood back to look at the entire stretch of tile, it

looked uniform, but on closer examination each tile had a uniqueness that added to the beauty of the


This week I am involved in doing annual reviews of the faculty members that serve in the department I

lead here at SAGU. Each year, I have the task of evaluating the administrative tasks each teacher

performs, as well as their performance in the classroom. Students provide information that help me

with this task, but I also have the opportunity to sit in their classrooms and observe their teaching first
