Guess who’s coming for dinner

When we moved to our small corner of the country, for which I am grateful, we were greeted by the aboriginals: creatures great and small who lived in the dense woods and had never been disturbed by man. Among those creatures were slimy lizards I eventually identified as skinks. Strongly resembling snakes, but with legs, these skinks moved through the yard and patio like lightning, whipping their black tails with blue racing stripes as they found cracks and crevices in which to hide. I was confident they were emissaries of the devil until I found their kind listed among the animals God created, within the pages of the Bible. I can only assume my skinks are direct descendants of those who went two-by-two on Noah’s Ark. That gave me pause, but not for long.
