The guard is changing here in Ellis County.

Tuesday’s primary runoff election saw the election of two new officials and heralded the end of two longtime political careers.

Former Waxahachie Mayor John Wray will take over for the retiring State Rep. Jim Pitts, who announced his retirement from the Texas House of Representatives last year.

The current Commissioner for Precinct 2, Bill Dodson, will be making a slightly less planned exit from the Ellis County Commissioners Court following his loss to challenger Lane Grayson.

Despite the disagreements I’ve had with both men on matters of policy, both of them searched their constituency with distinction and as such should be honored.
