Postcard view of Americans and cars? Meh…

That postcard view of muscled Americans having love affairs with their cars, only to turn around and buy the next beauty at first blush? Forget it. We’re more loyal, and less apt to change, than ever.

The consulting firm IHS Automotive this week said the average vehicle in the U.S. Is now a record 11.5 years old. That’s the oldest average the group has recorded. It credits increased reliability of today’s vehicles and the lingering impact of the sharp drop in new car sales during the recession, the Associated Press reported.
