Random Thoughts

I am a proponent of the Bill of Rights. I believe that those 10 amendments were ratified by the citizens of the United States to limit their government’s power rather than to limit the personal freedom of individuals. All ten of the amendments developed from a fear of the totalitarianism of the monarchy that the Founding Fathers fought against in the Revolutionary War. All of them are, and have been throughout our history, controversial for one reason or another. The first two, however, seem to have been under attack lately. I am distressed about that and the seeming erosion of the freedoms that these two amendments guarantee. I love the First Amendment. In it we find freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to peaceably assemble, and freedom of the press. Big ideas and big freedoms.
