Rekindling the spirit that brought us together after 9/11

While we reflect on the tragedy and loses this country endured after the September 11 attacks, it’s clear time this country gets back to being the supportive, caring souls we are. It’s hard to believe it has been 17 years since that fateful day. But like everything over time things tend to fade into memory banks and the doldrums of history itself. While the September 11 attacks are often remembered through the horrific images of burning buildings, debris and running pedestrians chased by monstrous black smoke clouds, there are other images that have also become associated with that fateful day. Images of courage and kindness — although not as obviously dramatic as the destruction — reflect the true spirit of Americans. In the confusion and distress of the time, there were some acts of courage and compassion that were not immediately recognized. If we all need a reminder we suggest a trip to the national September 11 Memorial where a list of victims whose bodies were found under the North Tower can be seen first hand.
