Seeing parking spots

Like it was in the horse and buddy days, finding a place to hitch your pony on Main Street could be a challenge when the train came to town. Have you ever seen the historical photos of downtown Ennis 100 years ago? Then you’d know that finding a place to park in this mini-metropolis is nothing new. And as city leaders, investors and business owners target this same area to be a modern destination for shoppers, diners, tourists and folks looking to enjoy the benefits of small-town Americana, those 8 foot by 10 foot spaces will become an issue once road construction eases. There is good news, and it is the kind that the livelihood of future businesses will find critical. More parking is in the works. In fact, it is a work in current progress, some ready in weeks. Marty Nelson, the director of the Ennis Economic Development Corporation, responded this week to the subject of whereto-park?
