This kind of project makes a difference

Everybody in Texas knows the name and the logo. Famous for its permanently clean bathrooms, its endless rows of gas pumps and its unique selection of sandwiches and snacks, Buc-ee’s will now make its next stop in our hometown. The project has been in the works for months, and rumors circulated throughout the community the whole time. Anxiously awaiting some word from the Texas-based travel center company, or from city leaders, some were even disheartened to hear last month that Waxahachie would receive its own Bucee’s travel stop. As it turns out, Ennis was also in the plans all along. All the anticipation aside, this retail project will be very different (in a good way) from other retail projects this town has seen before. To begin with, 90 percent of all sales are “new and come from outside our city,” according to Ennis Economic Development Director Marty Nelson. It’s no surprise. Many Texas drivers wait exit after exit just to stop to fuel up at one of these travel centers, rather than pick the first one available. For Texans, Buc-ee’s is an experience, and, in a way, it makes us feel all the more Texan now that we’re receiving one. Besides that, Buc-ee’s should help to boost the local economy by offering more jobs. According to Buc-ee’s, anywhere from 175 to 225 jobs will be created by the new 52,000 square-foot gas station, with $6 million in payroll.
