We’d rather be somewhere else

When commercials appear for those Caribbean cruises and I see teal shores, clear tropical waters, sandy beaches and tiny umbrellas in drinks, boy do I ever want to go on what would be my first. The idea of deep sea fishing on a charter or party boat, something I did a-plenty in my teens and twenties, is peaceful bliss. Being with 115,000 of my closest friends inside the Big House, the University of Michigan football stadium, now that is an exhilarating afternoon. Of course, being anywhere with my two kids, Matthew Dallas, who lives in Savannah, Ga., or Kristin, who calls Arlington her current home, those are great anywhere. Have you seen those bumper stickers, I’d rather be somewhere else? People, it seems, if given their druthers, would rather be anywhere but where they are. They’d rather be hunting, driving, skiing, quilting, fishing, or with their dog. Read this story and more in your Weekend edition of The Ennis News. Be informed, subscribe today!
