WWI veterans meeting held in Ennis in 1940


WWI veteran Lloyd Hefner, great-grandfather of the author, as he looked in uniform in 1918. He died in 1936 but his wife Sallie attended the 1940 veterans’ benefits meeting in Ennis. Ennis has always loved its veterans and made a big show of it. Today that is surely the case. But take a look at what the city did back in 1940, before America even entered WWII. Ennis went all out.
