Blessing of the animals set for Oct. 7

St. Thomas Episcopal Church will host a “Blessing of the Animals” for the 15th consecutive year on Saturday, Oct. 7. The service will begin at 10 a.m. at Minnie McDowal Park. The date coincides with the church’s celebrating the feast day of the patron saint of animals,
Saint Francis of Assisi. As is a custom of many churches, in remembrance of St. Francis and his love for all animals, a special ceremony is offered for them. Annually there are reportedly millions of animals that are led to the church to be blessed by priests with a measure that inspires those attending.
