Reminders to faithful about who they are

St. Thomas Episcopal Church, on Park Street, is a church that marks time with a

calendar. Who doesn’t, right? Our “sacred” calendar marks time similar with the

“profane,” or secular, calendar but also deviates from it. What do I mean? The

first day of the sacred calendar is the first Sunday of Advent, right about now. In

fact it will be November 29. Our new year begins with getting ready for the

Appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: we remember his First Advent of his birth in

Bethlehem; we await and prepare for his Second Advent when he comes in fully

revealed glory and power to tidy up a few things.
