Author’s Note: March is Women’s History Month, and in response to a recent question from a reader about a 1930s article that a member of his family found in a scrapbook, I thought it was a good time to share this story I wrote a few years ago about Lou Ella Allen, better known as Mrs. P. V. Allen, one of Ennis’ earliest and most successful women in business. Allen, who operated a downtown women’s dress and hat shop for over 40 years.
