Where is God?

Many people imagine God to be “up there”, in the sky somewhere, yet transformation comes by realizing our union with God is right here, right now, regardless of any performance or achievement on our part. That is the core meaning of grace. Authentic Christianity overcame the “God is elsewhere” idea in at least two major foundational ways. The first would be the Incarnation. God in Jesus became flesh; God visibly moved in with the material world to help us overcome the illusion of separation (John 1:14). The second way was God or Holy Spirit is known as an indwelling and vitalizing presence. Both are known via participation and practice when one actively draws upon such Infinite source. Good theology helps us know we can fully trust the “now” because of the Incarnation and the Spirit with us. Jesus teaches and is himself a message of “now-ness”. The only time Jesus talks about future time is when He tells us “not to worry about your life and what you are to eat…” (Matthew 6:25-34). Thinking about the future keeps us in our heads, far from presence. Jesus talks about the past in terms of forgiving it. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
