ABC cancels ‘Roseanne’

ABC announced Tuesday it has decided to cancel its hit “Roseanne” reboot, following a racist tweet by the show’s star, Roseanne Barr.
“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement. Barr’s tweet suggested that Jarrett is a product of the Muslim brotherhood and the “Planet of the Apes.” Jarrett, who is African-American, advised Barack and Michelle Obama. Barr later apologized “for making a bad joke.” Just a few hours after Barr’s apology, ABC said it was canceling her show. Disney CEO Bob Iger added “There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.” Barr was also dropped by her talent agency, ICM Partners, who called her “disgraceful and unacceptable” tweet “antithetical to our core values, both as individuals and as an ad agency.” Emma Kenney, who played one of Roseanne’s grandchildren on the show, said she was calling her manager to quit when she found out ABC had canceled the show. She praised Wanda Sykes, ABC Entertainment’s president and “anyone at ABC standing up for morals and abuse of power.” “Bullies will NEVER win,” she tweeted.
