5 slain in Rice

Phil Banker, phil@ennisdailynews.com

Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner said he and his detectives currently consider the two adults and three children found dead in a rural Rice home Sunday night to be victims of a murder-suicide.

Tanner planned to update the media at a noon conference today, and as of press time, the investigation was ongoing. Tanner said he did not know who initiated the slayings. “We have not completed our investigation,” he said.

Tanner said deputies were dispatched to the home at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday night, though he said the last time anyone saw the family alive was Thursday night.
