Winter Warning Alert

The National Weather Service on Sunday afternoon issued a Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Watch for parts of North Texas for Monday night through Tuesday morning. While overall accumulations don’t look to be very high across North Texas, any accumulations of ice, sleet, or snow will likely cause problems. So, we do have concerns for a slow and slippery commute Tuesday morning. TxDOT and North Texas Tollway Authority crews pre-treated highways several days ago with a brine substance, but both agencies will have crews on standby Monday.
THE TIMING: A shot of arctic air moves into the area Monday afternoon and evening. Ahead of this strong cold front, light rain is possible between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday. The arctic air will continue to spill into North Texas and any moisture left behind the front will transition to a wintry mix Monday evening. Depending on the timing of the front, the Monday evening commute could be a little slick for parts of North Texas. Right now, that risk is higher NORTH of DFW. But there’s also a chance that those areas stay fairly dry Monday evening. However, if you have any plans after 7 p.m in and around DFW, a transition to a wintry mix is likely during that timeframe. Eventually, late Monday night, we’ll see a transition to light snow. That could linger through Tuesday morning especially in the southern part of North Texas. Any snow will end from north to south during the morning hours on Tuesday.
