Accused Italy High shooter will be tried as an adult

Chad Anthony Padilla, who is accused of shooting fellow classmate Noelle Jones several times in the abdomen and neck earlier this year at Italy High School will stand trial as an adult, according to a ruling by state Judge Cindy Ermatinger earlier this week. The 16-year-old will stand trial as an adult on two charges of aggravated assault in the Jan. 22 shooting. Ellis County sheriff ’s investigator Brian Mc-Intosh testified that Padilla fired a .38-caliber handgun several times in the cafeteria before chasing Jones outside the school, WBAP-AM radio reported. Once outside, Padilla threw the gun down and said, “Damn it, I can’t kill myself now.” The gun belonged to the boy’s father. McIntosh said Padilla had a photo of Noelle on his phone with the caption “I have feelings for you but I’m scared.” Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
