Kiwanis installs new officers

New officers were installed Thursday at the Ennis Kiwanis Club’s regular meeting.
Barbara Powers, Kiwanis Lt. Governor of Division 2, administered the oath of office for the incoming officers and gave the club a motivational push for the upcoming year.
Continuing his role as treasurer and secretary is Mike Miller. The incoming president is Ellen Miller and her first and second vice presidents are Tommy Copeland and Martha Newsom who wasn’t able to attend the meeting.
“Ellen is here to guide you and lead your club to new levels of service,” Powers said. “She has already attended a Club Leadership Education and I am very proud of that.”
Powers also pushed the Ennis club to bring in new membership in an effort to help ease the pressure of benefiting the city with additional support.
Also absent from the meeting was the new past president, Charles Kelker. Powers recognized Kelker for his work during the past year and also pointed out the board members for the upcoming year.
The Kiwanis Club passed a motion donating $100 to Helping Hands of Ennis in support of the organizations 15th Annual Taste of Ennis that was held last night.
Angie Garcia, who has worked with Helping Hands for several years, said the group works to help the needy in times of crisis with rent assistance, food, clothing and other items. It doesn’t help those looking for a hand out but rather a hand up.
The Ennis Kiwanis Club meets Thursday at noon at the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Retirement Center.
