Double DWIs after car crash

Ennis police charged two Ennis men with driving while intoxicated after the men crashed their vehicles into each other Saturday night.
Det. Lt. Ron Roark said at 11:59 p.m. Officer Rodney Rickman observed a black Ford F250 stopped in the 100 block of E. Ennis Ave.
As Rickman pulled past the vehicle he saw smoke coming from a black and silver Chevrolet CK1500 that had crashed into the front of the F250. Roark said it was reported both vehicles were still running and in gear while the drivers had walked to a parking lot for their safety.
Rickman reported while identifying the drivers he noticed one having a strong odor of alcohol on him, slurred speech and poor motor skills. The suspect told Rickman he had been drinking beer but thought he was okay to drive. The suspect was given a field sobriety test, which he failed, and was placed under arrest.
While searching the arrestee’s vehicle, police found an open can of alcohol on the driver’s side floor.
Rickman made contact with the other suspect and discovered he also had a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech and poor motor skills.
The man also admitted to drinking and also failed a field sobriety test.
Rickman placed the second suspect under arrest also. Both men were transported to Ennis police department without further incident.
Gerardo Patlan, 35, and Alfredo Ramirez, 29, both of Ennis were charged with driving while intoxicated.

According to Roark, the complainant said her sister-in-law was at her residence trying to pick up her children while intoxicated.
