Acting it out

Theatre to hold auditions for upcoming show
The Ennis Public Theatre is hosting public auditions Saturday for its forthcoming production of the comedy “Barefoot in the Park,” the Tony-nominated 1963 play by Neil Simon. Men between the ages of 21 and 60 and women ages 18 to 60 will be tested for parts in the new vehicle. Actors will be reading with director Bill Rhoten from 10 a.m. to noon.
Best known for the 1967 film version starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda, Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park” is the funny, insightful story of newlyweds settling into their first home, a 6th floor apartment in artsy Greenwich Village, and the chaos that ensues due to a leaky roof, no elevator and assorted crazy neighbors. The original Broadway run for “Barefoot in the Park” was a big success, lasting four years and 1,530 performances while the movie garnered an Oscar nomination.
The Rhoten production will take the boards of the Ennis Publuic Theatre on February 2, 2007 and run each weekend through February 25.
The Ennis Public Theatre was founded over four years ago by Bill and Suzanne Rhoten and has produced a wide variety of comedies, dramas and musical specials, from classics such as “The Glass Menagerie” to original shows like Rhoten’s own seasonal feature, “My Favorite Christmas.”
The Ennis Public Theatre is located at 2705-C North Kaufman St.
