Woman charged with possessing paraphernalia

While usually tough on would-be shoplifters, Wal-Mart’s theft prevention department refused to press charges for theft on a woman Thursday after she was caught attempting to take items from the business without paying.
According to Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson, at 8:41 p.m. Officer Donald Kemp was dispatched to the superstore to transfer the detained suspect. The complainant said the suspect was caught on video surveillance attempting to hide items in a bag and exit the building.
While in Wal-Mart’s custody the suspect was told to empty her pockets and a silver metal crack pipe was produced. Kemp transported the suspect to Ennis police department without further incident.
Karen Littlejohn, 38, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Wal-Mart management said they would not file charges for the theft.

Husband turns self in following family assault

Ennis police obtained an arrest warrant concerning a domestic disturbance that took place Nov. 5, resulting in the suspect surrendering to police custody.
Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson said Francisco Vega, 27, of Ennis turned himself in after his wife reported injuries suffered during a fight with Vega.
Officer Lynn Neiman was dispatched to the 1100 block of S. Smith St. in reference to a disturbance and found Vega and his wife yelling at one another.
Neiman’s report stated the complainant was arguing with her husband when Vega pushed her down and then jumped on her stomach, where she had recently had surgery. Neiman reported Vega admitted he and his wife were fighting.
Vega was charged with assault causing bodily injury.
