Woman assaulted, Ennis man arrested

A 20-year-old Ennis man is in custody for allegedly assaulting a woman while visiting his daughter, according to Det. Sgt Mike Hopson.
Hopson said at 3:54 p.m. Officer Julia Pillow was dispatched to 1200 Country Club in reference to an assault taking place at the location. Pillow arrived and observed scratches and red marks on the woman’s face in the figure of a hand, which was the result of the suspect slapping her across the face, according to the complainant.
Hopson said the suspect was at the woman’s home at 1008 Austin Drive to visit his daughter and the two began to argue. The complainant told police the suspect shook her and shoved her while she was holding a baby. During the fight the woman hit her head against the wall and her back against the baby bed due to not being able to balance herself while holding the child.
The complainant left the house and phoned police. The suspect told police he was only defending himself.
Abel Bocanegra, 20, of Ennis was charged with assault with injury.
