Country Thunder claps again

It was recently announced the colossal western concert known as Country Thunder USA would be making its return to Texas.
But a significant change should have all Ennis roaring with thunderous applause.
The date of the concert has been moved to a week later than the first attempt, a wash out due to rainy weather conditions. The new date is May 30 – June 1. Country Thunder representatives said they felt it was unfair to ask local music lovers to rearrange their Memorial Day Weekend plans for a new event, even if it does play host to some of the largest acts in the country western music industry like George Strait, Reba McEntire and Gretchen Wilson.
The date change is especially good for Ennis residents, many of whom consider Memorial Day Weekend synonymous with the Polka Festival. Yet, it isn’t just a win-win situation for polka lovers. Moving the concert a week means hotels and restaurants can now serve twice as many tourists traveling to the Bluebonnet City.
The few moments we at the Ennis Daily News were able to witness at last year’s Country Thunder proved truly exciting as musicians and listeners alike fought their way through rain, mud and grey skies to have a fun time in the empty pasture outside of Ennis.
We’re confident that lightning won’t strike twice and this year’s event will be graced with clear skies and great weather. The event’s hosts and country music fans certainly deserve it.
