The gift that keeps reading

The Holiday Gift Cart at the Ennis Public Library is bursting with new books waiting to be bought and read. The titles are varied but they have one thing in common.
Their sale benefits the Friends of the Library, the volunteer corps of men and women who help library staff present the wide range of programs that draw hundreds of children and adults alike to the facility year round.
We owe much to the library for the literary and cultural enrichment of our community. The librarians and their assistants are key players but so are the Friends, without whom it would be virtually impossible for the entertainment and educational events we’ve come to expect from the facility to happen at all.
The library’s budget covers only so many programs but many more are needed to round out the calendar and meet the many diverse interests of patrons. That’s where the Friends of the Library come in. Through donations the group is able to sponsor the read-a-thons, contests, lectures, concerts and other events that further enhance those provided thanks to city-allocated funds.
Let’s remember the Friends of the Library this holiday season by dropping in at 501 W. Ennis Ave. to buy a few books. We get a great new book at a bargain price while ensuring the continuation of the Friends’ remarkable work for our community.
