Hands and hearts working together

Helping Hands of Ennis is accomplishing two great things with its 2008 “Hands that Help Ennis” calendar.
It raises money for the charity’s food pantry and utility, rent and clothing outreaches. And it acknowledges those in our community who give so much of themselves to local causes.
The passion and devotion of the men and women featured in the new calendar are an inspiration, and the Ennis Daily News is proud to spotlight Helping Hands’ clever fundraising effort in today’s issue.
The efforts of the people whose faces (and hands) appear in the pages of the 2008 calendar encompass many spheres of local philanthropy. From providing shelter to families in need to comforting the elderly in nursing homes to helping beautify the city, the over 20 individual volunteers and organizations included have accomplished much for the benefit of others, and are among the finest examples of the spirit of giving that has traditionally defined the men and women of Ennis.
The Ennis Daily News salutes the board of directors, staff and volunteers of Helping Hands of Ennis, and we also take off our hats off to this year’s roster of the “Hands that Help Ennis:” Rev. James Derrough, Shirley Watson, Pat and Randy Wemelt, Tommy and Kristi Copeland, the members of the Ennis High School Student Council, Harriett Adams and her dog “Josephine,” the staff of Ennis Regional Medical Center, the Keever family, Charlie Mae Presley and her dog “Susie,” Sylvia Bulot, Bryce and Sandy Anderson and Jan Glaspy.
Each one of these people is a bright spot in our community and we look forward to seeing their smiling faces and helping hands throughout the calendar year.
