New year, new talent for the Ennis Opry

Working by word of mouth but still packing the house full of fans of family-oriented entertainment, the Ennis Opry is starting 2008 with a full slate of North Texas talent.
Scheduled for Jan. 12 are local singers Jake Kassen, Jim Venable and Devin Banford, beginning a new year of varying entertainment from country, gospel and old-time rock and roll.
“We’ve got several different things coming this year,” Ennis Opry Founder and Host Russell Bailey said. “I’ve got about three or four acts a month.”
First operating in Ennis for two years, the Ennis Opry has moved to Bardwell.
“It’s entertainment for the whole family,” Bailey said. “It’s real close-knit. People show up early just to visit in the audience. The artists are entertaining. It’s real personable. You get to be real close up to what’s going on.”
Located at 504 Waxahachie Ave. tickets are $6 for adults and children 12 years old and younger are free.
The Ennis Opry Band is made up of Bailey on vocals and guitar, Fred Hayes on vocals and guitar, Jody Thomas on Drums, Joe Nonea on lead guitar and vocals, Robert Stedman on guitar and vocals, Chuck Wiginton on bass guitar, Ron Sikes on steel guitar and vocals and Zanada Tally on Vocals.
